Always work in a brightly lit environment

October 9, 2008

People who work in bright environments, such as near a window, are more productive and less distracted compared to people who work in the darker interior spaces, suggests a recent study.

Lack of light affects your mood and upsets your circadian rhythms. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is caused due to this disruption in a person’s biological internal cycle.

Circadian rhythms set the pace for most body processes using a 24-hour cycle. Sleep and mood are just two of the many processes governed by circadian rhythms. Symptoms of insomnia and depression can result when these thythms are changed.

People with Seasonal Affective Disorder are proven to be benifited by light along people with non-seasonal depression. If you suffer from a blue mood that lasts longer than a few weeks, you must see your doctor.

Fruits and Vegetables can save a brain damage

October 8, 2008

Luscious fruits and veggies are always tempting. Go ahead, buy a lot of it. Fruits and vegetables save you from brain damage. This is good news for all the fruit lovers, and inspiration for everyone else. Each additional juicy orange, wedge of apple, or bowl of strawberries you tend to eat during the day slashes your risk of a brain-crippling stroke by 11 per cent. All that fruit lowers your heart attack risk, too. And that’s not all. Veggies help as well — they cut stroke odds by another three per cent — but researchers recently found fruit the most protective.

How does fruit help squash strokes? Many studies suggest that potassium may be part of the answer. It keeps blood pressure down, and a lot of fruit is full of it. Fruit (veggies too) also is full of fibre and other nutrients that help keep cholesterol levels in check.

Want the biggest potassium bang for your produce buck? Reach for bananas, melons, oranges, nectarines, strawberries, sweet potatoes, spinach, tomatoes, and apples while cruising the produce aisles. Or better yet, head to the local farmers’ market for great buys on the season’s freshest produce picks.

And better still learn to distinguish between what’s fresh and what’s not when you step into the market to buy the stuff so you can get the most nutritional value out of them.

Now don’t you think that’s the best way to stay healthy and happy too?

Causes and Remedies of Migraine

October 8, 2008

Calling Migraine a headache is as good as calling Mount Everest a Hill. The pain is indescribable. 30 Million people in America alone are affected by Migraine. Migraine usually starts anytime between the age of 10-50 and goes away after 50. A few experience many a month, while some get migraine attacks only a few in their whole life. What causes migraine attacks? Also called ‘Ice cream’ headaches, migraines can be caused by chocolate, cheese, curd, meat, and also ice cream. Smoking  cigarettes is one of the biggest cause of Migraine attacks. Over 50 % who quit smoking give up migraines.

Migraine is often triggered by stress and depression. This can be very well treated with Homeopathy. Homeopathy has been one of the best remedies for migraine. 60 migraine sufferers were studied in an Italian Clinic. A single dose of a homeopathic remedy at two week intervals proved excellent results in 93% of the group.

In London a young girl, Kelly found that only three things in life were certain — death, taxes and headaches. She accepted the first two but always wanted to overcome the third. When her headaches proved unresponsive to painkillers, she went for homeopathy. The critical symptom identified was that her headaches were bad upon resting and was lesser with motion. Kelly was recommended a few doses of Iris Versicolar and recovered very quickly and completely that it was as if she never had migraine at all.
