Get Invisible braces for your Teeth
Lingual technique is the new mechanism in orthodontics. Gone are the days, when people had to wear ugly looking metal braces, which could be a source of embarrassment. Ceramic braces, though a more expensive option to metal braces, and also better looking, have not yet caught the fancy of people because they, in the true sense of the word are not invisible.
Lingual Orthodontics is a mechanism through which metal braces are fitted on the inner surface of the teeth, which makes them good as invisible.
The lingual technique is the method by which teeth can be moved with braces placed on the inner part of the teeth. Lingual refers to the latin word , ‘tongue’, so the term lingual technique. It has been around since the late 1970’s, but the recent advancements in the technique have been phenomenal. The technique that some doctors including Dr Sagar uses in the city, has been developed in Italy and Japan.
Dr Fillion, a premiere exponent of this art has been practicing lingual orthodontics in Paris since 1897 and in London since
1997. He is considered as one of the world leaders in the field of lingual orthodontics.
In this day and age of advanced mechanisms, when people are getting more health conscious, getting more style savvy, maintaining a good set of teeth is of utmost importance. Though Lingual Orthodontics has been practiced around the world for a long time, most Indians are still unaware about this.
Dr Rao says, “Generally older patients (above 25 years) who come to me for straightening their teeth, ask for an alternative to metal braces, for them lingual technique is a boon.
Generally any new technique is based on the same principles ‘push and pull’ of moving a tooth. That cannot change. But what has changed is the way we can move the teeth and the ease with which the patient can adjust to it. The old brackets used in lingual technique used to be very bulky, difficult to adjust, difficult to talk, difficult to eat. All this used to cause a prolonged period of adjustment. Orthodontic treatment results depend, to quite an extent on the individual patient compliance. These new brackets are amazingly small in dimensions, just 1.5mm in thickness, well contoured, so this leads to less trouble to the patient and therefore faster treatment. The developers of this system always say that the hallmark of this treatment modality is the ease and comfort of the patients wearing these brackets.
He continues, “Getting a lingual treatment done is expensive, but good things in life do not come for free.” Lingual technique needs to go out to the vast population in India. At the moment lingual treatment does begin at around 50-60k, but the more it is used, it is bound to get less expensive. It is a utilitarian technique and extremely comfortable.
