Crab is good for your heart
June 19, 2008
Need an excuse to splurge on crab legs, crab salad, or a cold crab cocktail on a cool rainy day? How about avoiding heart disease and cancer? Crab meat in general, and crab legs in particular, are loaded with zinc, a powerful antioxidant that’s just been found to help ward off both health threats.
Getting your daily dose of zinc — up to 12 milligrams (mg) per day — can help protect you from heart disease and cancer. In a recent study, these killers were linked not only to a lack of zinc but also to an excess of copper and a deficiency in magnesium. And being low on zinc made any problems with the other two minerals much worse. Researchers are still trying to determine whether the minerals were the direct cause of the outcome, but while they sort out the science, aim for 12 mg of zinc daily from food. Can’t hurt, could help, and — if you’ve got a yearning for crab — it tastes terrific.
Of course, crab’s not the only good source of zinc. Oysters can’t be beat, and clams and lobster are high on the list, too. On a more walletfriendly level, you’ll find beneficial amounts of zinc in nuts, peanut butter, beans, poultry, red meat, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and yogurt. And a multivitamin with minerals will fill in any gaps.
How to beat Stress
May 26, 2008
Try a new sport or any form of physical activity. Exercise is probably one of the best ways of beating stress. Delegate don’t try and take on responsibility for everything where you can share the burden. Get a massage regularly. Go dancing. Research shows that it is a great destresser. Give your mind something new to do regularly, like learn a craft or a new language. Make sure you get enough sleep. Talk any problems you have through with other people and feel happier.
For Great looking Legs!
May 17, 2008
There’ll be plenty of flesh on show this season with micro minis and hot pants making a huge comeback, so you’ll make sure your legs are looking at their best with our 12 simple tips:
1. Ditch the fuzz in favour of smooth, silky legs
The first stop to perfect pins has to be getting rid of leg hair. Whilst there may be an excuse for fuzz in the winter months, self-respecting legs should be hair-free this summer especially given the current fashion for micro minis and barely there dresses. If you’re planning to shave, take time to make it a pampering experience to avoid those in-a-rush nicks and cuts. After also shaving or waxing be sure to moisturise to keep skin silky smooth.
Top Tip: The skin on the shin is especially thin, and prone to becoming dry, wrinkled and flaky if neglected so be sure to slather on a moisturiser every morning.
2. Beat bumps and stretch marks
Skin bumps can occur because of a condition called keratosis pilaris or as a result of ingrown hairs. To avoid them, exfoliate legs with a grainy scrub in the shower.
Also get to work on reducing the appearance of stretch marks by applying a stretch mark corrector. Read more
10 Ways Of Burning Fats!
May 13, 2008
I’ve constructed some quick tips to keep you moving, your muscles stimulated and your blood flowing in minimal time. Now you have no excuse.
Here are my 10 fat-burning tips for people on the go:
1. When you first wake up commit to 10 minutes of continuous exercise. Choose only three movements and perform each in succession without stopping for 10 minutes. For example, Monday you can perform modified push-ups, followed by crunches for your abs followed by stationary lunges. On Tuesday you can perform free-standing squats with hands on hips, double crunch for abs, and close grip modified push-ups (hands three inches apart) for your triceps. Just 10 minutes!
2. Perform timed interval walking in your neighborhood or at lunch. If it takes 10 minutes to walk to a certain destination near your office or in your neighborhood, try to make it in 8 minutes. Read more
